In stores you'll see omega-3 at 1,000 mg, 1,100 mg or 1,250 mg. But the big number isn't always the one that matters.
Fish oil isn't the same as omega-3
The big milligram number is usually the total oil. Within that oil, part is the omega-3s EPA and DHA. Check the table for how many mg of EPA and DHA each serving contains.
EPA and DHA
They're the two most common long-chain omega-3 fatty acids in fish oil. Each product has a different ratio, so it's worth comparing both numbers.
Practical tips
- Take it with food so it's more comfortable.
- Store it away from heat and light.
- If you take blood thinners, check with your health professional first.
