If your skin gets irritated easily, choosing the right active is the difference between a routine you keep and one you give up.
Retinol
Very popular, but when starting it can cause dryness, peeling and sensitivity. It needs a slow introduction and strict sunscreen use.
Exfoliating acids
They remove dead cells and add glow, but overused they sensitize the barrier. Best kept to two or three nights a week at most.
Peptides
They're usually the gentlest: they don't exfoliate or cause purging, and can be used morning and night. That makes them a good entry point for sensitive skin.
Can you combine them?
Yes, but not all on the same day when you're starting out. One option: peptides morning and night, and retinol or acid only on some nights once your skin feels comfortable.
